You can take a walk back in time in the Historic Hyde Park District. Hyde Park was Tampa's first western suburb stretching southward along the Hillsborough River and to the Interbay Peninsula. Its history dates back to 1886. A tour of this area is definitely something any visitor will want to put on their schedule.
The area is mostly Victorian homes, but in recent years many fine restaurants have found a niche in the neighborhood and they offer everything from burgers to fine steaks and seafood. By the time you have taken a look at all the historical buildings and homes in the area, you'll be ready to drop by one of these fine establishments!
Hyde Park is very close to downtown Tampa, right off Kennedy Boulevard. The tour begins as you pass under the Cross-Town Expressway overpass. There are too many places to see to list here, but a few that you won't want to miss are:
James B. Anderson House, built in 1892. This home boasts of 6 fireplaces and a ballroom.
Currie J. Hutchinson House, built in 1908 and is the finest Second Empire mansion in Tampa.
The John Gorrie School, built in 1899 and the oldest continuously used elementary school in the area.
