South Tampa

South Tampa is located on the peninsula that stretches into Tampa Bay just to the southwest of downtown Tampa. McDill Air Force Base is located here and Bayshore Boulevard is the site of many area celebrations and festivals that are held in the downtown area.

South Tampa and the Hyde Park area are neighbors and share the history of the area. However, South Tampa has many of its own attractions to draw visitors and those looking for a place to make home. The annual Gasparilla Parade starts along Bayshore Drive and winds its way to downtown Tampa. There is an annual Soap Box Derby in May that attracts boys and girls from the area to compete for prizes and the opportunity to go to the national championship races in June. South Tampa also sponsors an annual golf tournament with a variety of events, food and other fun attractions for the avid golfers.

Because of its proximity to the downtown area, visiting the local attractions, restaurants and activities is convenient to those who reside there. St. Petersburg, Clearwater and other beachside towns are a short drive across the bay. Less than an hour away is Sarasota with its beautiful homes, shops and, of course, sunny beaches to play and relax on. For those that love the sand and sea, South Tampa is a short drive to many lovely spots along the coast.
