St. Petersburg, Florida

St Petersburg is located south of Clearwater and west of Tampa on a peninsula that forms the entrance to Tampa Bay. This historical area is dotted with dozens of small islands that have become a favorite place for many to live and play. Not only does St. Petersburg offer beautiful tropical beaches, but the cultural and family oriented attractions make it an area that offers much to those wanting to vacation or call home.

Many of the areas sites are accessible by the downtown trolley service that includes the Museum of History, The Hands On Museum, where kids can play inventor-for-a-day as they re-construct a roller coaster, create a symphony or help Einstein with one of his projects. The Salvador Dali Museum is also a worthwhile stop on the route. Along the beach there is a great amusement center full of video games for the kids to enjoy while parents can stroll through the many shopping areas. The Sunken Gardens features more than 50,000 tropical plants and flowers as well as a walk through aviary, wax museum of biblical characters and, alligator wrestling.

There are two piers, the Saint Petersburg Pier and Pier 60 in nearby Clearwater. The piers offer shopping, dining, a large aquarium and observation decks. Families can rent electric boats, play miniature golf or celebrate the end of the day at Pier 60 where craftsmen, entertainers and artists perform nightly, two hours before and after sunset.

There are 27 miles of unmarred sand beaches along the island of Anna Maria and Longboat Key where visitors can sunbath, swim and look for sea shells without the inconvenience of high rises or condominiums to spoil the natural beauty of the land and water. There are air boat rides, a variety of cruises around the Gulf of Mexico and outer islands which include speedboats, paddle wheelers, dinner/dance cruises, sunset trips and a Dixieland Jazz trip.
